QT Library: 1000 Books Campaign

It’s often said that once you have 1000 books, you have a library. With this goal in mind, the QT Library — a brick-and-mortar LGBTQIA+ lending library and substance-free community space — launched the ambitious 1000 Books Campaign. The mission: to collect 1000 books by the end of March.

As Communications Team Co-Lead, I spearheaded the campaign’s strategy and content creation, leveraging creative storytelling and social media engagement to inspire the community’s support.

Campaign Strategy

  1. Clear Goal and Messaging: Developed a concise and compelling message to rally support for the campaign:

    • “Help us fill our shelves with 1000 books by the end of March!”

    • Highlighted multiple ways to contribute, ensuring accessibility and engagement for diverse audiences.

  2. Multi-Channel Approach: Engaged audiences through:

    • Daily Story Updates: Behind-the-scenes updates to build excitement and keep followers informed.

    • Weekly Feed Posts: Progress updates, success stories, and personalized calls-to-action.

    • Reels and TikToks: Short-form video content to expand reach and connect with new audiences.

  3. Audience Segmentation: Tailored messaging for:

    • Individuals interested in donating books they already own.

    • Authors and creators wanting to share their work.

    • Supporters looking to purchase books through curated wishlists on Bookshop.org.

  • Content Creation: Wrote engaging copy for posts and captions to motivate action.

  • Graphic Design: Designed cohesive visuals and graphics aligned with the QT Library’s brand identity.

  • Video Production: Assisted with producing short-form videos and reels for TikTok and Instagram.

  • Social Media Strategy: Managed posting schedules, audience engagement, and progress tracking.

  • Community Engagement: Fostered connections through DMs and comments.

Results

  • 1000 Books in Less Than 3 Weeks: Surpassed the campaign’s ambitious goal ahead of schedule.

  • Increased Awareness: Grew the QT Library’s social media following and engagement through consistent, high-quality content.

  • Community Involvement: Inspired participation from diverse audiences, including individuals, authors, and supporters nationwide.

 

The 1000 Books Campaign for the QT Library was more than a book drive; it was a testament to the power of community, storytelling, and creative strategy. Through this campaign, I demonstrated my ability to lead communications efforts, inspire action, and achieve measurable results. Together, we filled shelves, but more importantly, we built a foundation for a space where LGBTQIA+ stories will thrive.
